Pattern #18
Description
This pattern is one of my personal favorites. I really enjoy clothes and I think we should have a little fun once in a while.
This straight cut blouse or jacket has a front panel with inseam pockets. There is also a tie in back for a little extra shaping if desired. The shoulders are slightly dropped with roomy set-in sleeves. The sleeves are where the fun begins! They are cut on the bias in four pieces with scallops. When the sleeve is sewn together, the scallops give the sleeve a ruffled effect. This is a good design for color blocking, or serge the seams on the outside in a contrasting color. For something less eye catching, press the scallops down and add buttons to secure in place. Another option: don’t pull the scallops out, just press. These will look like inverted pleats with just a hint of the inside showing.
The skirt gives you even more opportunity to play. This skirt is much more than a straight pull-on tube with elastic waist. The center front panel repeats the panel in the blouse or jacket. In the panel seams I have added what I call "knee pockets." Don’t laugh yet! These really work. You know how when you have a long straight skirt it pulls when you go up stairs, get into a car, or cross your legs? These "pockets" open and give your knee just a little extra room when and where needed. Inside there is a little elastic that keeps these closed until you bend your knee and need the extra room. If you don’t want the "pockets," sew them closed and cut them off. You now have a nice straight skirt with front panel detailing.

Sizing
This is an unstructured design and should have 6" – 10" of wearing ease. Small ladies will check the shoulder and neck widths and will make minor adjustments. Everything else will be done in the side seams at the "on the body" fitting before you sew up the side seams.
This pattern sizes from small to XXLarge.
Fabric Suggestions
Pick a soft to medium weight fabric with medium drape. Nothing flimsy, nothing too stiff. Lightweight knits work well. However, it does need to be a tight knit.
