Fort De Soto Park

Pattern #12

Description

This generously cut pattern has a large front and back yoke that extends across the shoulders to the cuffs, creating the sleeves. There is a large underam gusset for addition room and added detailing.

If you are concerned about sewing in a gusset — don’t be. The sewing is all done flat and there are no set-in square corners as in traditional gusset construction. You have the choice to pleat the back with one large pleat or several smaller ones. There is a front placket or a fold back front facing. Pockets are included. The neck is finished with a bias. Sleeves can be cut long or short, creating a tunic look.

The yoke is a perfect area for creative embellishing or piecing. Also if you want a narrower sleeve when cutting you can adjust the sleeve width.

Sizing

The yoke can be cut deeper or narrower, if this would be more flattering for your figure. The skirt should have at least 8" – 10" of wearing ease. Final fitting adjustments will be done at the "on the body" fittting before you sew up the side seams.

This pattern sizes from small to XXLarge. A great design for puls size figures.

Fabric Suggestions

Because of the large unstructured design I suggest picking fabric with a tight weave and soft to medium drape — nothing too thick or stiff. You are looking for relaxed movement. However, there are always other options.

This design is good for combining several fabrics in one garment. For your yoke you want the heavier fabric with the most body. For the gusset and skirt you can pick fabric with a softer drape and a lighter weight. For another option use a fabric with less drape for the front of garment and one with more drape in back.
